Well that was easy..

Actually it wasn't.

This curved straw bale wall was the most demanding bit of straw work I have ever done. I treated it as somewhat of a thesis.  After the elaborately curved concrete footings,  straw  is stacked on edge usually well over  2 metres high and rather straight. The difficulty is maintaining a rigidity in straw without the  advantage of attaching to a structure at the top (usually the ceiling or roof structure). It also lacks a rendering stop at the top either. It is internally braced with  curved and re-welded reo mesh and vertically braced too. Gal netting, plastic membrane over the top and three coats of lime render.
